Supervision and Mentorship

High quality supervision is critical to support often busy clinicians to provide the best service possible to clients.  I always ensure those in my service receive this reliable space to reflect on their practice and receive guidance and training as needed.  Throughout my career I have typically supervised 6 individuals at any one time, routinely providing supervision to:

  • Qualified Clinical and Counselling psychologists

  • Trainees on Clinical Psychology Doctorates

  • Trainees on Counselling Psychology Doctorates

  • Assistant Psychologists

  • Other professionals within the NHS (including nurses, medics and allied health professionals)

Psychological Therapy

My professional training as a Clinical Psychologist equipped me with a broad range of competencies in different therapies, primarily Cognitive Behavioural approaches, Systemic Therapies, as well as Psychodynamic and Community Psychology approaches. Though my specialist interest is older adults, I work with adults of all ages in the following modalities:

  • Trauma Informed Care

  • Compassion Focused Therapy

  • Mindfulness based approaches

  • Cognitive Analytic Therapy

  • Cognitive rehabilitation

  • CBT for psychosis

Specialist training for work with older adults include: new developments and learning, includes:

  • Psychoanalytic approaches to Later Life (Tavistock 2 years part time)

  • Annual attendance at residential conferences by Faculty of Psychology of Older People (Division of Clinical Psychology, British Psychological Society)

Training and Education

Training and education is central to improving services.  Key establishments I have trained with are (examples given):

Developed and delivered the following modules: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with Older Adults, Neuropsychological Assessment of Dementia, Community Psychology Approaches and Older Adults at the following institutions:

Sarah Ghani

Sarah Ghani is a Clinical Psychologist with over thirty years of experience, specialising in older adult services and dementia care within the NHS. Since qualifying in 1994, Sarah has progressed to Consultant level, leading and developing innovative services and holding a variety of management and Clinical Lead roles. Sarah is registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC). Driven by a passion for supporting older people, Sarah is committed to making psychological therapy accessible to all, regardless of age. Recognising both the challenges and opportunities that come with later life, Sarah’s approach is rooted in respect for lived experience and the belief that older adults bring unique strengths and resilience to therapy. Throughout their career, Sarah has worked to break down barriers to emotional support, advocating for inclusivity and empowering individuals to draw on their own coping skills and resources. Whether facing health challenges, changes in family or work, or navigating loss, Sarah provides compassionate, expert guidance to help clients thrive at every stage of life
